What are some examples of irony in pop culture?

* Alanis Morissette's "Ironic" actually describes coincidences, not ironies. The dictionary definition of irony is "the expression of one's meaning by using language that normally signifies the opposite, typically for humorous or emphatic effect." None of the situations Morissette describes are actually ironies. Instead, they are coincidences, which is also a literary device, but very different from irony.

* Darth Vader's "I am your father" revelation. One of the most famous plot twists in movie history uses mistaken paternity as the vehicle for irony (and tragedy).

* The name of the movie _Titanic_. The ship was supposedly "unsinkable," but sank on its maiden voyage after hitting an iceberg.

* The name of the band No Doubt. The band's name is a reference to the fact that they are known for their upbeat music, despite often singing about dark subjects.

* The title of the movie _When Harry Met Sally..._. The movie is about two people who fall in love, despite the fact that they have constantly argued and never truly "met" throughout the movie.
