How did Matt Groening come up with the name The Simpsons?

The Simpsons is named after Matt Groening's own family. Specifically, he named the main characters after his father (Homer), mother (Margaret or "Marge"), and sisters Lisa and Maggie. Bart was the only fictional name used for the main characters, and was actually an anagram of "brat".
