Can you describe and give an example of dramatic irony?

Dramatic irony occurs when the audience or reader knows something that the characters in a story do not. This creates a sense of suspense and anticipation, as the audience wonders how the characters will react when they finally learn the truth.

Example: In Shakespeare's play "Romeo and Juliet," the audience knows that Romeo and Juliet are meant to be together, but the characters themselves do not. This creates a tragic sense of irony, as the audience can see the inevitable disaster approaching while the characters remain blissfully unaware.
