The story of David and Goliath is found in the First Book of Samuel in the Bible. David was a young shepherd boy who was chosen by God to be the next king of Israel. At the time, the Israelites were at war with the Philistines, and Goliath was their champion. Goliath was a giant of a man, standing over nine feet tall, and he was terrifying the Israelites. David volunteered to fight Goliath, even though he was much smaller than him. David did not use a sword or spear, but instead used a sling and a stone. He slung the stone with such force that it struck Goliath in the forehead and killed him. This victory was a major turning point in the war, and the Israelites were victorious.
