Shakespeare's mother's name was Mary Arden. She was the daughter of Robert Arden, a wealthy landowner in Warwickshire, England. Mary married John Shakespeare, a glove maker, in 1557. They had eight children together, including William, who was born in 1564. Mary Arden died in 1608.
