Why is Broadway named Broadway?

Broadway is named as such due to its origins as a Native American trail that connected the Hudson and Harlem Rivers. Later on, during New York’s infancy after incorporation in the 1600s, the term "Broad Way" would come into prominence because the street was much wider when compared to the rest of the colonial settlement which primarily included footpaths used only during daytime.
