At the beginning of act john proctor says it is winter in here yet why this pertinent to what going on by book crucible arthur miller?

The fact that it is winter in the beginning of *The Crucible* by Arthur Miller is pertinent to the story because it adds to the overall feeling of coldness and isolation in the town of Salem. The cold weather reflects the coldness of the community and the characters' relationships with each other. Winter creates the perfect climate for the spreading of rumours and distrust ,and its harsh conditions parallel the harsh actions taken by the townspeople
