Why did Micheal Myers go looking for Laurie strode?

In the original 1978 "Halloween" film, Micheal Myers does not go looking for Laurie Strode. he randomly selects his victims, and Laurie is simply one of the people he happens to encounter on Halloween night. It is only in later sequels that Micheal becomes fixated on Laurie and starts stalking her.
