Early life and career
Usher was born in St. James, Jamaica, on August 17, 1958. She attended St. Hilda's High School and later studied at the University of the West Indies, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics and a Master of Business Administration degree.
After graduating from university, Usher worked as an economist for the Planning Institute of Jamaica and as a financial analyst for a private sector company. She later entered politics, becoming involved with the Jamaica Labour Party in the 1980s.
Political career
Usher was elected to the House of Representatives of Jamaica in 2007, representing the St. James Central constituency. She has served in several ministerial portfolios in the Jamaican government, including:
- Minister of Information, Culture, Youth and Sports (2007-2009)
- Minister of Education, Youth and Information (2009-2011)
- Minister of Science, Energy and Technology (2011-2012)
Usher is known for her strong leadership and advocacy on issues such as education, youth development, and women's empowerment. She is a member of the Inter-American Commission of Women (CIM) and has held leadership positions in various international organizations.
In addition to her political career, Usher is also involved in business and philanthropy. She is the owner and operator of several companies in Jamaica and is a patron of several charitable organizations.
Personal life
Usher is married and has two children. She is a member of the Anglican Church and is involved in several church-related activities.
