Pop starlet Ashlee Simpson, sister of Jessica Simpson and famous for singles such as "Pieces of Me" and "La La," released another love song, "Boyfriend," in 2005 off her album "I Am Me." The song hit number 19 on the U.S. charts. The lyrics are about a girl telling another girl that she didn't steal her boyfriend. Simpson sings the lyrics "Don't put words up in my mouth, I didn't steal your boyfriend." The song references an alleged incident in which Simpson "stole" Lindsay Lohan's boyfriend, actor Wilmer Valderrama. Simpson sings, "Hollywood sucks you in, But it won't spit me out." According to Simpson, "it's about taking something real life and making fun of it, making it fun."
Sixties girl group The Angels, background vocalists on many records, released the single "My Boyfriend's Back" in 1963. The song became a No. 1 hit in the United States. Bob Feldman, Jerry Goldstein and Richard Gottehrer, a songwriting and production team that had hits such as "I Want Candy" and "Night Time" as The Strangeloves, wrote and produced "My Boyfriend's Back." Feldman witnessed an incident in which a girl was yelling at a boy in a leather jacket for telling lies about her. The girl said, "My boyfriend's back and you're gonna be in trouble" to the boy, which became the hook of the song.
The Ramones, a punk rock band from Queens, New York, released the song "I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend" in 1976 on its self-titled release "Ramones." Unlike their other songs, which are played very fast, "I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend" is as slow as the songs that inspired it. The song is nothing more than a boy expressing his affection for a girl, saying 'Hey, little girl, I wanna be your boyfriend" and asking her if she loves him too. The song was a reaction to all of the "I Don't Wanna" songs that the band had, like "I Don't Wanna Walk Around With You" and "I Don't Wanna Go Down to the Basement."
