How to Play What the World Needs Now on the Piano

Burt Bacharach wrote the song "What the World Needs Now," which was originally released by Jackie DeShannon in 1965. The song was later recorded by other artists as well.       Play an Fm7 chord on the piano by playing an F in your left hand and F, Ab, C and Eb in your right hand. Play the bass note with your left hand on the first beat and the other notes in your right hand on the second and third beats. Since this song is in 3/4 time, the rhythm will sound like this: 1,2,3, 1,2,3 (three beats per measure). The emphasis will be on the first beat. Play the Fm7 for one measure.

      Play a Bbm7 chord by playing a Bb in your left hand and the notes Bb, Db, F and Ab in your right hand. Use the same pattern of the bass note on the first beat and the right-hand notes on the second and third beats. Play this chord for one measure.

      Repeat the Fm7 chord and the Bbm7 chord for one measure each on the introduction. Repeat these two chords for one measure each again on the first line of the first chorus ("What the world needs now is love, sweet love...").

      Play an F#6 chord for two measures on the lyrics "It's the only thing that there's... ." Form the F#6 chord by playing an F# in your left hand and an F#, A#, C# and D# in your right hand.

Play this chord by playing F in your left hand and F, A, C and Eb in your right hand. This will coincide with the lyric "everyone."
