What is the story behind Jennifer Nettles song STAY?

The song "Stay" by Sugarland tells the story of a tumultuous relationship. Nettles wrote "Stay" with Kristian Bush and frequent collaborators, Troy Verges and Bobby Pinson, and it became the lead single from Sugarland's 2008 album Love on the Inside. In an interview with CMT, Jennifer Nettles said she was inspired to write the song after a conversation with a friend who was in a difficult relationship.
