What is a singer?

A singer is a musician who produces musical sounds with their voice. They may specialize in one or more genres of music, such as classical, opera, pop, rock, folk, or jazz. Singers use their voices to create pitch, timbre, rhythm, and dynamics in their performances. They may also use their voices to imitate instruments or sounds from everyday life.

Singing is a complex skill that requires coordination between the diaphragm, vocal cords, tongue, lips, and resonators in the head and chest. Singers must also have a strong sense of musicality, including pitch, rhythm, and harmony. Additionally, singers must have physical stamina and lung capacity to sustain long phrases and perform for extended periods of time.

Singers perform in a variety of settings, including concert halls, nightclubs, and theaters. They may be supported by other musicians, such as a band or orchestra, or they may perform solo. Some singers also record their music in a studio for commercial release.

The term "singer" can also be used to refer to someone who sings as a hobby, rather than as a professional musician.
