How to Project a Voice in Female Voice Training

Clear voice projection while singing is essential to a great vocal performance. You want your audience to hear your voice and be impressed with not just your clarity, diction and presence but also how much you feel what you're singing. Projecting your voice conveys that message. Learning to project your voice allows your true talent to come through your singing performances.

Instructions

    • 1

Sing a few lines of your favorite song. Examine the difference in your voice by singing these lines quietly to yourself then loudly. Notice the difference in volume and your personal stance and body movement when you sing loudly versus in a softer voice.

    • 2

Concentrate on pushing your voice outward as you sing. While it helps to recognize the difference in volume of your voice, focusing on your voice's projection out of your body is your goal.

    • 3

Maintain good posture. Slouching or other poor posture affects your voice performance and ability to project.

    • 4

Focus on the movement of your mouth while singing. Use a mirror to watch your mouth produce sounds. Remember, small mouth movements produce smaller sounds so use your mouth to fully project the words that are coming out of your mouth.

    • 5

Pay close attention to your breathing while singing. Rapid, short breaths hinder your voice's capability. Breathe using the diaphragm and take deeper, slower breaths to allow your voice more power from within your body.

    • 6

Practice singing and projecting your voice daily. The more you practice, the more confident you become and confidence allows you to grow that much further as an artist.
