Listen to different types of music to increase your musical knowledge and exposure. Draw from many different musicians' styles when creating your own, rather than copying someone else's style.
Enroll in voice lessons. Learning from a qualified voice teacher will show you how to use your voice and improve your tone and vocal health. Contact your local college's music department or ask music store employees if they have any recommendations.
Sing every day. Practice as much as possible to develop your voice.
Maintain vocal health by refraining from smoking. Drink plenty of water, rest adequately and find ways to relax and have fun.
Sing in public whenever possible, since live experience is extremely valuable. Look for opportunities such as talent shows and school, church and community musical productions. Volunteer your singing abilities at retirement homes, hospitals and elementary schools.
