How to Practice Rapping With a Fast Tongue

Rap is an art form which combines poetry and elocution. Rapping with a "fast tongue" is a colloquialism for speaking rapidly with precision to a beat. It is most often associated with freestyle raps, which also require a rapper to be quick witted. In fact, learning to rap with a fast tongue is a great way for anyone to improve their public speaking skills. It helps to solidify elocution and enunciation as well as rhythm.

Instructions

    • 1

Start with a simple tongue twister like "She sells seashells..." or "How much wood could a woodchuck chuck..." These are important because they emphasize making distinctions between words which sound similar. Spend at least 20 minutes a day practicing these in the beginning.

    • 2

Select a rap song with a moderately fast rap, and learn the words to the rap. Practice along side the song until the elocution is perfect.

    • 3

Continue practice with the tongue twisters and continue to select rap songs with fast raps, but select songs with faster and faster raps. Build up the skills and tongue acrobatics over time.

    • 4

Select your own beats and start trying to preform your own freestyle or planned rap.
