Buy a dictionary and increase your word power. Spit your lyrics easier and faster in a freestyle battle by knowing more words to use. Read the dictionary and surprise yourself by the amount of new words you pick up.
Make up words. Fit your words to the beat by changing them any way you want. For example: Spiteded knitteded sewing my words, fiteded wit itit; hat on reverse (Kourtesy, 2009). The rapper is saying how he is fiddling with his words and knitting them together when he raps them. Doing this makes the lyrics roll off your tongue quicker, and adds interest and creativity to your rhymes.
Rhyme words with three syllables like "glittering" and "twittering." Make your rhymes sound fast and professional, by saying three syllable words quickly one after the other.
Practice all the time. Think of nursery rhymes that you used to hear as a child. Rhyme simply like that at first. Look at the world around you and rhyme about whatever you see. Rhyming can be easy, but thinking quickly of the rhyming words is hard. Practice and the rhyming words will come quickly to you. Record yourself and play it back. Listen to where you can increase your speed.
Randomize your subjects. You don't have to stick to one topic throughout a rap song or verse. Rhyme faster by saying a few rhymes about one topic, and when you can't think of the next rhyme, switch to another random topic. This stops you slowing to think. Add humor and interest by switching topics suddenly and switching back. For example, rap about money worries, then switch to a comment about your cousin and then back to money again.
Write rap lyrics every day. Improve your poetic abilities by practicing writing rhymes. Write about anything in your life; loved ones, politics or current events. Rhymes that you have written in your spare time will come back to you while you are rapping in front of other people. Rap faster by remembering rhymes you have written in the past.
Listen to different rappers and check out different styles, for example, West Coast and East Coast styles. Write lyrics in different styles and practice them until you find one that suits you. Rapping in your favorite style helps you rap faster.
Gain confidence by rapping in front of friends. Get used to people listening to you rap. Rap faster by being more relaxed in front of other people. Give out a recording of your work if you feel anxious about rapping in front of others. Gain feedback from others and then move onto live performances.
