How to Clear Vocals

If you are a professional voice user, such as a singer or lawyer, maintaining clear vocals can be a critical part of ensuring professional success. Excessive amount of mucus around your vocal chords can cause physical discomfort as well and make your voice sound muddied. Clearing your vocals can be done by practicing proper vocal hygiene techniques, and can be kept clear by consistency following those techniques.

Instructions

    • 1

Hydrate yourself by drinking eight 6- to 8-ounce glasses of water a day. This will thin the mucus found on your vocal chords, leading to clearer vocals.

    • 2

Avoid drinking caffeinated drinks such as coffee and soda as these can dehydrate you, leading to more mucus buildup on your vocal chords.

    • 3

Speak in low to moderate tones to avoid stressing your vocal chords unnecessarily. Yelling and whispering stress the vocal chords, leading to greater mucus generation around the chords.

    • 4

Turn on a humidifier at night while you sleep, and avoid dusty and smoky areas. This will keep your vocal chords properly moisturized, leading to less mucus buildup.
