How to Make R&B Vocals Fuller

R&B singers are always looking for ways to enhance and propel their vocals to the next level. Technical skills such as tone, harmony and correct mixing parameters are essential for making productive and full vocal performances. Instructions

    • 1

Place the microphone on the stand and make sure it is 4-6 inches away from your mouth. Close recordings will cause loud, unwanted vocals. Sing and record the selected vocals, if not already recorded.

    • 2

Place headphones on and listen to the recording. Listening to the recording through the speakers will muddle the recording and cause you to miss mistakes. Record another vocal track of the same thing you just recorded. Play the recording back, the first and second recording should blend together. Re-record the vocals if the two aren’t in sync with each other.

    • 3

Record the vocals again on a separate track and sing them in a different harmony. If the other two vocals are in a low tone, sing the new recording in a higher pitch. Copy the higher pitch recording and paste it on the track below it. Locate the onboard mixing board and search for the “Pan” setting.

    • 4

Set the “Pan” to “50%” to the left on the first high pitch recorded track. Set the other high pitch recording to “50%” on the right. Highlight and select the first recorded track and click the “Effects” tab in the “Options” window, if available. Select the “Reverb” effect and set the gain to “3-5”, press the “Apply” or “Ok” button.

Preview the song by pressing the “Play” button to hear the recording. Adjust the volume of each track by using the volume slider located on the mixing board. Save the song by selecting “File” and “Save” from the top of the screen in the software.
