The Nazi German national anthem was called "Deutschlandlied", or "Deutschland über Alles". The lyrics were written by August Heinrich Hoffmann von Fallersleben in 1841 with music by Joseph Haydn from 1797. The Nazis used a stanza of Hoffmann's poem that had first been used before and during World War I.
