What are the rules in singing Lupang Hinirang?

The proper singing of the Philippine National Anthem (Lupang Hinirang) is outlined in Republic Act No. 8491 or the Flag and Heraldic Code of the Philippines. Here are the rules for singing the Lupang Hinirang:

1. Sitting or Standing: All persons present shall stand at attention facing the Philippine Flag. Those not in a position to stand shall remain seated.

2. Proper Posture: While standing, stand with your feet shoulder-width apart and your body erect. Keep your head up, your shoulders back, and your chest out.

3. Uncover your head: Men shall remove their hats or any head covering during the singing of the National Anthem.

4. Hand Placement: Place your right hand over your chest, just above your heart. Your palm should be facing your body, and your fingers should be close together.

5. Begin and End Together: Begin singing the National Anthem together when it is played or sung. End the singing simultaneously with the conclusion of the music or singing.

6. Tone and Tempo: Sing the National Anthem in a respectful, solemn, and dignified manner. Follow the tempo and rhythm of the music as it is played or sung.

7. No Alteration: Do not make any alterations to the lyrics or melody of the National Anthem. Perform it in its original and official form.

8. Volume and Projection: Sing in a clear and audible voice, projecting your voice so that it can be heard by everyone present.

9. Sing All Stanzas: The official rendition of the Lupang Hinirang includes all five stanzas. However, when sung during non-official occasions, it is acceptable to sing only the first stanza and repeat the final chorus.

10. Respect and Reverence: The Lupang Hinirang symbolizes our national identity and pride. Demonstrate respect and reverence while singing the National Anthem by giving it your full attention and participation.

By following these rules, we pay tribute to the Philippines and its people and honor our national symbol.
