“You Belong With Me” was inspired by Taylor Swift’s high school crush on then-boyfriend Joe Jonas. When they broke up in 2008, Joe Jonas went on to date actress Camilla Belle, hence the lyrics, “She wears short skirts, I wear T-shirts.” Camilla’s mother is Brazilian and the song says “she’s cheer captain, and I’m on the bleachers.”
