How did Kesha singing change her life?

Ke$ha's music career helped her overcome an eating disorder and body dysmorphic disorder.

At the height of her fame in 2014, Kesha revealed in an interview that she was struggling with an eating disorder and body dysmorphic disorder. As a teen, she told CNN, she took pills to lose weight before she realized she had a problem. In her early 20s, she was put on medication to treat the disorder. “In my early 20s, when I was put on medication, I gained weight rapidly. I did not look like myself anymore,” she told Cosmopolitan magazine. “People in the industry were very vocal about it. That was also an intense time because everything was starting to happen for me.”

Kesha said she was devastated when record executives told her that her weight gain would negatively impact her career. She began to restrict her eating, exercising excessively and throwing up her food.

Her eating disorder and body dysmorphic disorder led her to a dark place. She told CNN she "felt like [she] wasn't good enough."

Kesha said turning to her music helped her to overcome her eating disorder and body dysmorphic disorder. She began to see herself in a more positive light and was able to accept herself for who she was.

In a 2016 interview with Rolling Stone magazine, Kesha said that her music helped her to find her voice and to express herself. "When I was really sick with my eating disorder and body dysmorphia, I couldn't stand to even look at myself in the mirror," she said. "But when I started writing music, I found a way to express myself and to deal with my pain. It was like therapy."

Kesha's music has been an inspiration to many people who have struggled with eating disorders and body dysmorphic disorder. Her story shows that it is possible to overcome these conditions and to live a healthy, happy life.
