What is the United states Anthem?

The National Anthem of the United States is titled "The Star-Spangled Banner". It was originally a poem written in 1814 by Francis Scott Key, and later set to music by John Stafford Smith. It was designated as the national anthem in 1931 by an Act of Congress. The song consists of four stanzas, but only the first stanza is commonly sung during official ceremonies. Here are the lyrics to the first stanza:

Oh, say, can you see, by the dawn's early light,

What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming?

Whose broad stripes and bright stars, through the perilous fight,

O'er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming?

And the rocket's red glare, the bombs bursting in air,

Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there.

O, say, does that star-spangled banner yet wave,

O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?
