Where did the national anthem of Brazil come from?
The Brazilian national anthem was adapted from the opera "Il Guarany" by Carlos Gomes. The opera premiered on 19 March 1870 in Rio de Janeiro and was adapted into a national anthem by Francisco Manuel da Silva with some lyrical changes. It was officially adopted as Brazil's anthem in 1890, shortly after the proclamation of the Republic. The national anthem bears a similar melody to the "La Marseillaise" by Claude Joseph Rouget de Lisle.
