Determine your budget for your project. Determine how many songs you want to have recorded and produced.
Research music producers that are well-versed in your genre of music. Find producers who will produce your music and are in your budget range. You can look up biographies online or find out what other bands, in your genre, have experienced with particular producers. This will give you an idea of the style of producer you are interested in.
Make a list of several producers that you can afford, and find out their contact information. You can find this information in local telephone books, online or from artists who have used the producer. You can even use Myspace as an effective tool for finding contact information.
Start calling and e-mailing producers on your list. Let them know what you are interested in doing with your music, and discuss what options are available.
Schedule a recording session with the producer of your choice. Make sure you have discussed your budget and vision for your music with the producer. Find out what is expected of you from the producer: what equipment you will need to bring, the hours you will put in, the time you are expected to arrive, etc.
