How to Convert Audio to MIDI in Cubase 3X

Converting audio to musical instrument digital interface (MIDI) can be a time-consuming process if you don't have the proper signal processors or audio plug-ins. However, audio easily can be converted to MIDI by using Cubase 3X, which allows you to edit both audio and MIDI based recordings. The Cubase 3X interface comes equipped with useful effects such as distortion, delay and a "MonotoStereo" option to help you achieve crisp audio and MIDI samples. To convert audio to MIDI, you will need to have audio songs or samples in stereo format.

     Open the Cubase 3X software or download a free trial version of the program online. Import the audio song of your choice by selecting "File" from the top of the screen, then "Import."

     Double click the imported audio song or sample to display the "Sample Editor." Click "Factory," located at the top of the "Sample Editor" window. Select the "Audio to Score" option from the drop down menu.

     Set "Attach Range," "Smooth Release" and "Velocity Threshold" to your liking, then click the "Process" button, located at the bottom right hand of the screen.
