Pick songs from your music that you feel would make a good ringtone. These are usually singles from your records or songs that are radio-friendly.
Decide which part of your song you'd like to use for the ringtone. The hook or chorus is usually a good choice.
Write down the start time and stop time of the fragment that you would like to use as your ringtone. It should last between 20 to 30 seconds.
Create a ringtone using a website that can edit and cut up songs. A simple site that allows you to make ringtones free is Audiko (see References). Upload your song on the website in MP3 format, and the track will be sent back to you as a download with a wave form editor. You choose the song fragment that you want as your ringtone and save the file on your desktop.
Use a software program such as Garage Band to create a ringtone (see References). After you have uploaded your song into the program in MP3 format, edit the track to the portion that you want to be your ringtone and save the file onto your desktop.
Upload your ringtone to a hosting site, such as The Bizmo, that allows you to sell ringtones independently (see References). Most companies require that you sign up for a paying account to host ringtones, and The Bizmo is no exception. Simply create an account, upload your ringtones to the company's website and promote them for sale to your fans. You can even sell the ringtones on your Facebook or MySpace page. Other companies allow you to embed your ringtones for sale on your own website.
Choose a site on which you can both create and sell ringtones. Some companies will even create the ringtone for you. Myxer is a site that offers ringtone-creation services and a platform that easily sells your ringtones to a wide audience (see References). You simply upload your song on its website and give the start and stop times of your ringtone track. It creates the ringtone for you and posts the completed ringtone on your artist store if you sign up for a fee-based account.
Visit Create-Ringtone, a site similar to Myxer (see References). It requires that you create your ringtone on your own by purchasing and downloading the company software. You can then sell your ringtone on your website, MySpace account or Friendster page through the company.
