How to Mix Surround Sound With Ableton Live

To mix in surround sound on Ableton Live you must have the program as well a surround sound VST or Audio Unit Plug-in. VST and Audio Unit Plug-ins enable you to add voice and track paremeter effects when mixing audio samples and songs. When mixing in surround sound, it is important to have the proper interface configuration within Ableton Live. To use a surround sound VST or Audio Unit Plug-in you must import a stereo or mono song in WAV, MIDI or MP3 format.

      Select the song destination.

      Open the program and import the song by selecting the "Library" tab, which is indicated by a "1" icon on the left side menu. Click the drop down arrow located next to "Library" at the top of the screen and select the folder or destination where the song is.

      Look for plug icon on the left menu.

      Click the "Plug-in" button on the left, which is indicated by a plug icon on the left side menu. Import the plug-in into the program by selecting the folder or destination where it is, download a free surround sound plug-in online if you don't already have one.

      Drag and drop plug-in on imported song.

      Select the surround sound plug-in from the drop down menu then click the "Activate" button located at the bottom of the "Plug-in" box. Drag the plug-in from the "Plug-in" box and drop it on the imported song. The plug-in parameters will display at the bottom of the screen in the "Track Window" box.

      Edit the effects in real-time.

      Click the "View" button , which is indicated by a left arrow on the left menu bar. Select "Arrangement" then press the "Play" button on the "Transport" bar at the top of the screen. Adjust the surround sound effects in real-time in the "Track Window" located at the bottom of the screen.

      Save the song once you're done.

      Save the project by clicking the "Save" button located in the "Track Window".
