Apple Recording Software

The Mac platform has a long-standing reputation for power and reliability in audio production. Since Apple’s acquisition of Emagic in 2002, the company has offered its own line of recording software suitable for a range of applications and experience levels.
  1. GarageBand

    • GarageBand is part of the iLife suite which comes with every new Mac. It allows multitrack audio recording and MIDI sequencing, as well as podcast recording. It includes various software instruments and effects and a range of integrated guitar and keyboard lessons. Garageband is compatible with Apple’s higher-end DAWs (Digital Audio Workstations).

    Logic Express

    • Logic Express offers greater power and complexity than GarageBand while retaining familiarity, compatibility and affordability. Its recording and mixing capabilities are more advanced, and it features instruments and effects such as Amp Designer and Pedalboard for recording guitars.

    Logic Studio

    • Logic Studio is Apple’s flagship audio product, a comprehensive suite containing almost 50GB of applications and other content for musical composition, recording and performance. This is a powerful professional product that beginners may find overwhelming.

    Other

    • Apple also produce Soundtrack Pro 3 as part of the Final Cut Studio package for film and video production. It is aimed at creating and refining soundtracks for video, with features for recording and editing dialogue and Foley sound effects.
