How do I Transfer Tracks Recorded on Tascam 2488 Mkii to Sonar 8 Producer?

When transferring tracks recorded on the Tascam 2488 MKii to Sonar 8 you must first create a virtual track from the MKii to export. When exporting tracks, the song requires a mix down before the transfer process to ensure track effects and vocals remain the same. The Sonar 8 interface allows you to import and export audio tracks in multiple audio formats such as MP3, WAV and AIFF. A USB connection cable is required when transferring songs from the Tascam 2488 MKii to Sonar 8.

Instructions

  1. Setting Up Tracks for Export

      Power on the Tascam 2488 then press the "Wave In/Out" key on the top of the interface. Select the "USB Export" option once prompted. Scroll through the list of tracks and select the track you want exported then press the "OK" button.

      Set the song "Resolution" to "16" or "24" bit then press the "Enter" key to export data to "FAT Partition."

      Scroll down and select the "Disk" option then press the "Enter" key. Select "USB Open/Close" option from the drop-down menu and press "Enter."

    Importing Tracks to Sonar 8

      Connect the USB cable to the back of the Tascam 2488 and the other end into the computer USB slot. The Tascam 2488 will be detected as a "Removable Disk."

      Click and open the Tascam 2488 icon on the desktop system tray in the right bottom hand corner. Highlight the selected virtual track then select the "Copy" option. Pick a file destination then wait for song to transfer to computer before disconnecting USB cable.

      Open the music production software and create a new file by selecting "File" from the top menu then "New." Add new tracks to the project by selecting "File" from the top menu then "Add New Track." Click the "File" menu at the top of the screen then select "Import." Select the virtual track from the folder you saved it to then press the "Enter" key.

      Follow all above steps to import more tracks into the music creation software. Save the file by selecting "Save" from the "File" menu at the top of the screen.
