How to Connect a Guitar to a Behringer U-Control

The Behringer U-control unit makes home recording simple and easy. The U-control works as an interface between your computer and the mixing console. It is possible to plug different instruments directly into the U-control and then plug the U-control directly into your home computer. You have the option of listening with either headphones or external speakers. Plug in your instruments and mixing console and hit the "Record" button. After recording, hit the "Playback" button and listen to your work.

      Plug your guitar into a preamp. The Behringer user manual recommends a V-Amp 3. The V-Amp 3 is a modeling preamp that allows you to dial in 28 different amplifier sounds and combinations. It makes it unnecessary to mike a guitar amplifier and makes it possible to record in any situation without bothering the neighbors. Plug a regular instrument cable into the your guitar. Plug the opposite end of the cable into the V-Amp 3.

      Plug the preamp into the Behringer U-control unit. Plug into the stereo input jack on the U-control. It may be necessary to use a 1/8-inch adapter to connect to the unit.

      Connect the U-control unit to your computer with a USB cable. Plug the USB cable into the U-control unit. Plug the opposite end of the USB cable into the USB port on your computer. The LED light comes on automatically indicating the U-control unit has power.

      Plug headphones into the U-control unit. Plug the 1/8-inch headphone jack into the "Phones" jack on the U-control unit.

      Adjust the volume on the U-control. Turn the volume control all the way to the left before putting the headphones on. Increase the volume by turning the volume control to the right.

      Push the "Record" button and start playing.
