How to Care for a Condenser Mic

Condenser microphones are typically used for studio recording, both because of the level of sonic detail they provide, as well as the fact that they are too delicate to use in most live situations. Some condenser mics can be badly mistreated and still continue to function, but that is the exception rather than the rule. While gravity is certainly no friend to a condenser mic, its biggest enemy is moisture.

Instructions

    • 1

Keep the mic away from water and moisture of any kind.

    • 2

Use only the recommended power supply for the mic.

    • 3

Transport the mic using secure, padded housing. Take every precaution not to drop the mic.

    • 4

Wipe the microphone with a soft, dry cloth after each use, and store it in its pouch if it came with one. These patches contain moisture-absorbing crystals that help keep the mic dry.

    • 5

Resist any urge to take the mic apart or modify it in any way. Not only can this damage the mic beyond repair, it probably also voids the warranty.
