How to Record Any Sound Playing on a PC

Many PC's come built with an internal microphone. By default, Windows will assign this as the default audio input device for any recording application. This is useful for users trying to record audio played from their computer speakers. There are multiple ways to go about recording audio from speakers. The simplest way is by selecting to record from the computer's internal microphone and capturing any audio signal from the speakers into the mic.

Instructions

    • 1

Click the "Start" menu at the desktop and open the "Accessories" folder. Open the "Entertainment" subfolder, and click the "Windows Recorder" program.

    • 2

Play the desired sound through the computer speakers. While the sound is playing, press the "Record" button in the Windows Recorder. The computer will automatically use the internal microphone to pick up audio from the speakers.

    • 3

Press "Record" a second time after the 60 second limit has been reached. This will continue to record from where the program cut off.

    • 4

Click the "File" menu at the top of the Windows Recorder and save the recorded audio.
