Use an online directory. You can use an online database such as magicyellow.com or yellowbook.com (see Resources). Tools like these help you to locate even small labels that may not have a website.
Search by your style of music. There are hundreds of record companies in Georgia. Save time by entering keywords into your search such as country, rock or rap so that you can find companies that produce your style of music. For instance if you perform hip-hop or rap, Drum Squad out of Atlanta is a possible choice for you. If rock music is your area, a record company such as Dadd's Production in Savannah may be for you (see References).
Narrow down the search radius. Chances are, you want to find a record company that is fairly close to you, so search using the location tools in your directory to narrow down your search. If you want to limit your search to record companies in Atlanta, just type it in the city box, or you can search by a specific zip code.
Research your search results. You should have a fairly short list of record companies specific to your type of music and area. Now, take those names and plug them into your search engine. Find out names of artists that work with them, what they look for in artists and how they promote.
Organize your list. Once you have done your research, prioritize it, putting the one that best fits your needs at the top and working your way down.
Contact the companies. Some companies such as Drum Squad have their own website where you can find contact numbers and email addresses for sending in your demos. Other companies may simply have a listing in the directory that you need to call to find out what to do next.
