Empire Rehearsal Studios was started by a group of musicians looking for a reasonably-priced rehearsal space. Since mid-2008, the studio has grown to 72 soundproof rooms, with plans for 100. A convenient Queens location and competitive prices make Empire Rehearsal Studios a popular choice for rented rehearsal space. Space can be rented on an hourly or monthly basis at $15 per hour, or $900 per month, as of January 2011.
Studio Ray is run by producer and vocal coach Ray Balconis, who has helped produce Billboard chart songs for several different artists. The studio provides producing, mastering, mixing, editing, tracking, vocal production, complete song arranging and programming services. Balconis specializes in vocal production and coaching, making Studio Ray popular with singers. Studio Ray also offers access to backup musicians, including Balconis himself. For a fee of $75 per hour, with a 2-hour minimum, as of 2011, artists receive access to full-service recording, mixing and mastering sessions.
Spin Recording Studios is a state-of-the-art business that offers artists a Manhattan-style recording experience at a manageable price. Spin Recording features two separate studios, isolation booths for recording vocals and a large collection of vintage and modern recording equipment for mixing tracks. Hourly rates are available by request, either by phone or email.
Queens Music Rehearsal Studios offers short-term and long-term rehearsal rentals in its 42-room facility. With a long-term rental, musicians receive unlimited access to a rehearsal space, day or night, seven days a week. According to the Queens Music Rehearsal Studio website, the building is secure, clean and camera-monitored, with easy access to a freight elevator for moving equipment. Studios are soundproof, insulated and climate-controlled for comfort. Studio rentals are $15 an hour as of 2011, and monthly leases start at $400 to $600.
