Open Logic Express. If you want to record audio into an existing Logic Pro, select "File > Open" from the menu bar and choose your project from the navigation menu. If you want to create a new audio project, select "File > New" from the menu bar.
Connect any external music equipment to your computer. For example, if you have an electric guitar, you can connect it to your USB port using a USB guitar cable. You can also connect a microphone using a USB-to-XLR cable. To connect all of your instruments at once, use an audio interface (a small external sound card with microphone and instrument jacks). You can find all of these peripherals at music supply stores.
Click "Logic Express" on your menu bar, hover your mouse over the word "Preferences" and select "Audio" from the second pop-up menu that appears. Click the "Input Device" menu and select your interface or other connected USB device from the list. If you do not plan to connect instruments directly to your computer, you can skip this step.
Click "Track" on your menu bar and select "New." When the pop-up appears, select "Audio" and click the "Create" button. A horizontal bar will appear across your screen on the main project window. This is your recording space, formally referred to as a "track."
Click your new track once in the left column. This will highlight it. With your track selected, you can begin your recording.
Click the "Record" button, which looks like a small gray circle at the bottom of your project window. When the recording process begins, start transmitting your audio using your instrument or voice. You can record using a connected instrument, or you can record live by speaking or playing music into your computer's internal microphone.
Click the "Stop" button when you finish recording. It looks like a small gray square at the bottom of your project window.
Repeat Steps 4 through 7 to add new layers of music. For instance, if you recorded a piano melody on your first track, you can layer a guitar riff on top of it by creating a second track. In music recording, tracks are just layers, and you can add as many layers of music as you like.
Click "Window > Mixer" on your menu bar. This opens your mixer window. The mixer widow allows you to add effects. Select the "Inserts" tabs appearing on any track, and choose digital effects from the list.
