How to Correct Your Pitch With Auto-Tune

Auto-Tune is the audio editing tool that revolutionized the vocal aspect of professional music. Its ability to correct pitch and computerize the sound of a vocal track is why Auto-Tune became one of the most well-known products in the industry of professional music. Modern versions of this program, however, take Auto-Tune's abilities even further, as they can correct the pitch of virtually any sound that has a distinct pitch, such as a lead guitar or a bass instrument.

Instructions

    • 1

Open your version of the Auto-Tune plug-in on any track in your audio editing software, such as Record, Pro Tools or Logic. Choose the key in which your song will be recorded in the "Key" box, and then choose the range or instrument type in the "Voice Type" box. Auto-Tune will automatically correct the pitch for you, and this, of course, is where its name comes from.

    • 2

Click on the "Graph" mode button in copy version of Auto-Tune 7 or EVO. If you have Auto-Tune EFX, there is nothing more you can do, as Auto-Tune will always automatically correct everything that you sing. Therefore, if your singer or instrumentalist is too far off-pitch, the program will correct the voice to the wrong note.

    • 3

Click the "Track Pitch" button once in the graphical view of the higher quality versions of Auto-Tune. Play back your recording for as long as you want to correct its pitch, and Auto-Tune will take note of it for you.

    • 4

Click the "Mark Curve" box once you have stopped playing back the recording, and Auto-Tune will create a visible, editable representation of your audio. Recording this way allows you to manually choose which notes will be pitch-corrected and exactly how much or little they will be corrected.
