How to Use Headphones on an Amp Without a Jack

A guitar amplifier is an electrical device that musicians use to make an electric guitar audible. Usually, guitar amplifiers do not have headphone jacks. In this case, it is necessary to use extra equipment for using headphones with the amp. Some of the equipment used for this procedure -- for example, a small mixer -- are standard for musicians who record music. The advantage to using this approach is the added control over the guitar tone, as heard by the guitar player wearing headphones.

Instructions

      Place the microphone in the microphone stand by sliding it into the holder.

      Connect a cable to the microphone. Connect the other end to the mixer input

      Connect the headphones to the headphone jack on the mixer.

      Connect the guitar to the amplifier with a cable.

      Position the microphone in front of the mixer.

      Turn on the mixer and the amplifier.

      Put on the headphones.

      Play the guitar. It will make sound through the amplifier.

      Listen through the headphones.

      Adjust the loudness of the headphone signal with the knob on the mixer marked "Headphones Volume." Adjust the knobs marked "EQ" to change the tone of the amplifier, as heard through the headphones.
