How to Adjust EQ on a Countryman Mic

Countryman EarSet microphones allow for discreet amplification of the human voice in live speaking, singing or recording events. Adjusting their equalization, or frequency response as it is known in the realm of microphones, is a breeze when using the capsules included with the microphone. You can control the Countryman EarSet microphone's response to high frequencies, normally the realm of "sibilance," or the high-pitched tones that form "S" sounds in the human voice. Controlling the sibilance will help you modify the voice to sound more proximal or distant.

Instructions

    • 1

Take the three protective caps that came with the microphone out. The smallest cap is the "0" cap, the middle size is the "+4" and the largest is the "+8."

    • 2

Grip the boom of the microphone, the long wire attached to the recording capsule. Take any one of the caps and slide the open, cut-out end straight over the end of the microphone.

    • 3

Swap out different caps by pulling them off and affixing them as in the previous step. The "+0" will give you a flat frequency response, the "+4" will boost the high frequencies, adding some crispness to the sound, and the "+8" will boost the high frequencies even more, creating either a crisp or slightly distorted sound based on the voice.
