How to Get Lip Microphones to Work

A ribbon (lip) microphone isn't much different than a standard vocal mic other than the fact that it is much smaller. These lip mics' small design helps to cut out a majority of background and ambient noise. This is a very useful microphone for a broadcaster and was introduced by the BBC in Britain. As long as you know where to position yourself in relation to the mic, you can get the most out of the device.

Instructions

    • 1

Plug the end of your microphone into the input jack in an audio receiver.

    • 2

Place the microphone on a stand and adjust the stand so that the mic is at mouth level. You can purchase microphone stands of various sizes from audio supply stores.

    • 3

Position the microphone so that it is between 3 and 6 inches in front of your mouth.

    • 4

Speak directly into the microphone. The background and ambient noise will be at a minimum and your voice should be able to be heard clearly.
