Who invented the first recorder?
There is some debate over who invented the first recorder, but most sources credit the German instrument maker Johann Christoph Denner with inventing the modern recorder in the early 18th century. Denner, who lived from 1655 to 1707, was a member of a family of instrument makers based in Nuremberg, Germany. He made many improvements to existing wind instruments, including the recorder, and is credited with developing the recorder's characteristic conical bore and seven-hole design. His instruments quickly became popular throughout Europe and became the standard for recorder playing, which remains largely unchanged to this day.
