How much does a music director make?

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the median annual wage for music directors was $89,430 in May 2020. The lowest 10% earned less than $48,450, and the highest 10% earned more than $173,200.

Music directors typically work full time, and some work more than 40 hours per week, especially during concert season. They may also travel frequently to attend rehearsals and performances.

Music directors typically have a bachelor's degree in music or a related field, as well as several years of experience as a performer and/or conductor. Some music directors also have a master's degree in music or a related field.
