* Phillips head screwdriver
* Flathead screwdriver
* Wire strippers
* Crimpers
* Electrical tape
1. Remove the factory radio. Use the Phillips head screwdriver to remove the four screws that hold the radio in place. Once the screws are removed, use the flathead screwdriver to pry the radio out of the dash.
2. Disconnect the factory radio harness. There are two harnesses that connect the radio to the car's electrical system. One is the power harness, which is usually black, and the other is the speaker harness, which is usually white. Disconnect both harnesses by pressing down on the release tabs.
3. Prepare the aftermarket radio harness. The aftermarket radio harness will have two connectors: one for power and one for speakers. Connect the power connector to the power harness from the car, and connect the speaker connector to the speaker harness from the car.
4. Mount the aftermarket radio. Slide the aftermarket radio into the dash and secure it with the four screws that you removed in step 1.
5. Connect the antenna. Connect the antenna wire from the aftermarket radio to the antenna connector on the back of the car.
6. Test the radio. Turn on the radio and make sure that it works. If it does not, check all of the connections to make sure that they are secure.
Here are some additional tips for hooking up a CD-radio-tuner in a 1997 Mercury Mystique:
* If you are not comfortable working with electrical wiring, you can have a professional install the radio for you.
* Make sure that the aftermarket radio is compatible with your car's electrical system.
* Be careful not to damage the car's wiring when you are making the connections.
