How do you tune a guitar half step down?

1. Tune your guitar to standard tuning.

* This means that the strings should be tuned to the following notes, starting from the thickest string (6th string) to the thinnest string (1st string): E, A, D, G, B, E.

2. Select the capo and place it on the first string (the "E" string).

3. Adjust the tuning of your guitar by turning the tuning pegs at the headstock of the guitar.

* All the strings should be tuned one half step lower.

* This means that they should be tuned one fret lower than their standard tuning notes.

* The thickest string (6th string) will now be tuned to D#, the A string will be tuned to G#, the D string will be tuned to C#, the G string will be tuned to F#, the B string will be tuned to A#, and the E string will be tuned to D#.

4. Double check:

* Verify that the strings are tuned correctly by comparing their pitch to the notes on a tuner or a reference pitch, such as a piano.

5. Adjust intonation if necessary:

* Since you've changed the tension on the strings, intonation of your guitar may now be off

* Fine tune your intonation to maintain accurate tuning at the 12th fret.

Your guitar is now tuned half step down. Enjoy playing in the new key!
