Why did Elvis change from gospel to rock and roll?

Elvis Presley did not change from Gospel music to rock and roll. His musical career began with rockabilly, a fusion of country, blues, and rhythm and blues. While Elvis did record a few gospel songs throughout his career, he was never primarily a gospel singer.
