Open a new document in Microsoft Word (or other word processor).
Click on the center justification button to align your text to the center of the page.
Set your font to Times New Roman, 14 or 16 point.
Type "Biography," followed by two dashes. Then, without a space, type your full name in upper and lower case (e.g., Biography--Jane Doe).
Press the "Enter" key once to start a new line, then in parentheses, type in your birth year, followed by two dashes and a space (e.g., (1989-- ).
Switch your font to regular (no bold), Times New Roman, 12 point. Switch the justification to left aligned.
In the first paragraph (not indented), introduce yourself (in third person) by listing your hometown and grade level (e.g., freshman). Then provide a brief statement about when, where and why you first were drawn to music (e.g., "Girl's love of music first began when she attended a Chanticleer concert at age 4 with her parents in Detroit, Michigan.")
Press the "Enter" key twice and start a new paragraph (do not indent). Write a few sentences that detail any music events for which you currently are preparing. Examples might include auditions for regional or state honors choirs, solo and ensemble or a college scholarship to a particular university.
Press the "Enter" key twice and start a new paragraph. Write several lines about what you have done in the past. You can include music classes you have taken (e.g., theory or band), honors or recognitions you have had (e.g., selected as a soloist for the annual holiday concert) and any other musicians with whom you might have worked (e.g., frequently plays as a substitute oboist with the Green Quartet).
Press the "Enter" key twice and begin a new paragraph. In this paragraph, reiterate what you currently are doing, but also tie it in to your future goals (e.g., Girl hopes to complete her aforementioned work on Amazing Grace this summer so that she can record it onto a demo CD for future auditions. She aspires eventually to audition for Big Music Company A.)
If desired, start a new paragraph after a double return and end with a statement about your beliefs in music or a quote from someone else that ties into your goals. This is not required.
