Sandy Travis began his radio broadcasting career in 1958 and began working in the Denver radio market in 1977.
In 1988, Travis was hired by KYGO-FM, a country music station in Denver, to join its morning broadcasting team.
In February 2001, Travis was abruptly fired from KYGO for unspecified reasons. According to Westword, a Denver news publication, Travis claimed he was let go over something he had said on the air. KYGO representatives never verified the claim.
Travis posted a note on his website claiming he had been fired over an on-air comment, although other industry observers speculated that he did not get along with the program director.
KYGO continues broadcasting country music in Denver. Travis' website lists a Virginia Beach address and phone number but no additional information.
