How to Paint a Stomp Box Enclosure

A stomp box is a basic percussion, usually a wooden or metal box, placed under the foot to help create a rhythmic beat. An instrumentalist or player taps their foot on the stomp box, cloning the sound produced by the drum or guitar being played. If you have an old stomp box and want to spruce it up, painting it an be done in about an hour.

  • 13 x 13-inch aluminum tray grill
  • Mild soap
  • Drop cloth
  • Polyester powder paint
  • Paint brush
  • Sponge
  • Water

Instructions

      Sponge clean the stomp box with mild soap and water.

      Sand all surface with sandpaper to prevent bubbling or bumpy surfaces once painted.

      Remove all screws. Take the top of the stomp off. Place both the top and bottom of the stomp box on a drop cloth.

      Paint the top and bottom of the stomp box. Use easy-handed thorough strokes for each layer. You should paint more than two coats on each portion of the drop box.

      Preheat your grill until it is at 200 degrees Celsius (390 Fahrenheit). Place both the top and bottom of the stomp box on the aluminum tray and place on grill for 10 minutes. Polyester powder paint is what modern stomp boxes are painted with. This durable paint needs to be cured with heat. Remove the stomp box and let cool for 30 minutes to and hour.
