How to Print CD Artwork to Fit a Jewel Case

Designing your own jewel case covers is a creative way to personalize your CD collection or add a unique touch to gifts for friends. Printing artwork that will fit a jewel case is simply a matter of specifying the correct dimensions. Most CD cases measure 4.75 inches by 4.724 inches. With these measurements, you can use almost any graphics editing software to create images that fit your jewel cases perfectly.

Instructions

    • 1

Launch your graphics editing software and open a new document or clipboard.

    • 2

Create or import the artwork you want to use for your jewel case. Make sure your chosen image is square, not rectangular, so the image will not be skewed when you adjust the dimensions. Many basic software packages, such as Microsoft Word, offer an option to "Lock Aspect Ratio" to prevent any distortion.

    • 3

Find the "Image" menu or formatting toolbar and look for an option labeled "Size," "Dimensions" or "Attributes." Selecting this menu option will bring up a window that allows you to specify a desired width and height for your image.

    • 4

Type "4.75" in the "Width" box and "4.724" in the "Height" box. If there is an option to specify units, select "Inches." Click "OK" to apply the new sizing.

    • 5

Check that the image has been readjusted, then save the new document to your hard drive.

    • 6

Print the document and cut out the image. Insert it in your jewel case.
